Grammar Coach is a browser extension that checks text you type and explains the corrections. To do that it has to read what you type. This page describes exactly what is read, what leaves your machine, what is kept, and for how long.
What the extension reads
The extension runs on every website, because a text box can be on any website. It reads the contents of a text field only when both of these are true:
- You have focused a standard text area or rich-text editing field, and
- You have stopped typing for about a second, with at least a few characters present.
It does not read password fields. It does not read page content outside the field you are typing in. It does not read your browsing history, your open tabs, your cookies for other sites, or anything you have not typed. When the extension is switched off from its popup, it reads nothing at all.
What is sent off your machine
When a check runs, the text in the focused field is sent over HTTPS to our server, and from there to a third-party language model provider that produces the corrections. The text is sent for the sole purpose of generating those corrections and is not used for advertising, profiling, or resale, and is not used to train any model.
What we store
For each correction produced, we store:
- Your account identifier
- The category of the mistake (for example: grammar, spelling, punctuation)
- The character positions of the flagged text within that check
- The explanation and the suggested fix
- Whether you accepted or dismissed it, and when
We do not store the text you typed. Not the field contents, and not the flagged phrase.Storing the flagged phrase is an optional setting that is off unless you deliberately turn it on — it exists so a future feature can show you your own past mistakes verbatim. If you turn that setting on and later turn it off, everything previously kept under it is erased at that moment.
We also store your daily request count, so the usage limits on your plan can be enforced.
Who else processes your data
- Clerk — authentication. Holds your email address and login credentials.
- OpenRouter, and through it the model provider serving your request — receives the text of a check in order to produce corrections.
- Hetzner — hosts our server and database, in Germany.
- Google Analytics — measures traffic on this website only. It sets cookies and records which pages you view, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and whether you clicked through to the Chrome Web Store.
The extension contains no analytics trackers, no advertising SDKs, and no session recording. Google Analytics runs on this website when you visit it in your browser. It is not part of the extension, it never sees a text field, and nothing you type is measured or sent to it.
How long we keep it
Correction records are retained while your account is open so that the recurring-mistake view has history to draw on. Delete them at any time — see below — and they are gone immediately and permanently.
Deleting your data
Sign in at app.grammarcoach.in and use “Delete my data” to erase every correction record associated with your account. To delete the account itself, including your email address, email[email protected] and it will be actioned within 30 days.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, export, or erase your personal data, and to object to processing. Email[email protected] to exercise any of these.
Children
Grammar Coach is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or who receives it, the date at the top will change and the extension will surface a notice before the change takes effect.
